YARMOUTH, ME — May
06, 2009 — DeLorme, a leader in GPS software and solutions for
mobile professionals, today announced the release of its Earthmate
PN-40 Extension for ESRI Software. This extends the PN-40's powerful
GPS capabilities to the vast community of ArcGIS users nationwide.
- Specifically, ESRI users will be able to view their ArcMap
projects on the PN-40 GPS receiver’s bright-color screen. Collected
waypoints and tracks can then be presented to ArcMap in a shapefile
format.
- The ruggedized, waterproof Earthmate PN-40 GPS is also
capable of displaying color aerial imagery, integrated topographic
and street maps, places of interest, and nautical charts.
- The
device’s superior speed and performance derive from its 32-channel
GPS chipset and a dual-core processor. Its 65K-color transflective
TFT screen is easily readable in any light conditions.
- This
latest DeLorme solution for mobile professionals includes DeLorme
USA Topographic Map Data, and supports MrSid and GeoTIFF aerial
imagery files for ESRI ArcGIS users. RasterCatalog and scanned paper
maps are also supported.
- In addition, users can subscribe to the
online DeLorme Map Library to access aerial imagery, USGS 1:24,000
topographic quads, and NOAA navigation charts.
- The Earthmate
PN-40 is already being used by a variety of outdoor professionals
nationwide for collecting and verifying position data in the Fossil
Fuel, Wind, and Electrical Energy markets, and for Search and Rescue
and Public Safety applications.
- When using the Earthmate PN-40
Extension for ESRI Software, mobile professionals can:
- Cut views
of their ArcMap projects for use in the field
- Convert collected
waypoints and tracks with associated comments for import into ArcMap
as shapefiles
- Display MrSid and GeoTIFF imagery files on the
PN-40
- Collect distance and area measurements
- Navigate rural
terrain across DeLorme trail and map data
