I can also confirm that the ascent/descent values are now good. Compared to Topo Switzerland, I only have a few meters more or less in the Garmin. When I record the same route on Topo Switzerland, but when I hike with "auto pause", I was counted a whole 100m less descent. But otherwise it looks good (I activated the auto pause during recording. Maybe that's because it wasn't counting everything correctly anymore)

GPSrChive > GPSMAP 67 > Common Issues > Bug 29 is now marked as resolved based on user feedback.

Who knows what future firmware releases may bring us.....

The 8.80 firmware update release notes include "Fixed possible issue with ascent being too large during activities". So hopefully that fixes the ascent issue for good.

I'll test it myself for sure and hopefully others can share their findings here as well!

Hi everyone, as the person who originally posted this issue, I can confirm v 8.80 of the firmware has now fixed it. The ascent is now reporting on screen what I'd expect it to be, rather than a significantly higher figure. This issue was always about what was displayed on screen and not what was held in the recorded data, which strangely was always correct.

Despite having said that the issue is now fixed last week, today I did a walk of 2264 ft gain which showed as around 3300 on the gpsmap67. I have just installed 8.90 although that doesn't claim to fix any ascent/descent display issue. It looks like it's back to the drawing board with this bug, it's not resoloved consistently.

absolutely the same here. Tried it with 8.8 and also 8.9 now. The problem is that the trip data adds „Total ascent“ even when recording is off. And according to the manual it is not supposed to do so. I have NOT yet tried doing a recording with a RESET of the trip adata before starting a new recording. But even if the Total Ascent for such a recording might be correct, it‘d still be a bug. What a shame. More than one year and still cannot do one of the most simple things.

You'd think it would be a straightforward fix given that the recorded data is accurate. When I get home and load up the recorded gpx file it has the total ascent completely correct as expected, it's just the device display has a wrong accent/descent count during the activity.

This indeed what is happening, the total ascent (and descent) data fields record data even though no activity is being recorded.

So I always clear the trip computer before starting activity recording, this will set the total ascent data field to zero. At the end of the activity the value displayed matches what has been stored in the activity summary.

I suggest reporting this to Garmin Support, the more people do this, the more likely Garmin will investigate and (hopefully) fix it.

The way it's described with the reset is not the issue I see. I always reset all the counts before a walk. By the end of it (and indeed throughout) the ascent / descent display is wrong by about 50% higher.

even with resetting before the recording/actual trip, my total ascent values are too high. (about 15% during the last trip)
