Yes the app is the latest as of today.

Garmin support got back to me, and I've sent them the diagnostics logs from the App, as well as the Garmin folder of the device (sent using Garmin Express). Let's hope they are able to track it down.

From the App logs, I am able to find some relevant entries because of the text I used in the notes (kaboon).

Code: Select all

smart-2025-03-23 17_42.log:589:2025-03-23 18:16:33:486 [com.garmin.exploresync][Device] [3492217748][Debug] smart - onSendResponse: {"status":"READ_STATUS_SUCCESS","waypoints":[{"uuid":"lAMn0AAAAIAAEAAAGwAAAA==","notePart":{"versionStamp":{"editTime":1742778961,"derived":false},"text":"Phone-text-kaboon"}}]}
smart-2025-03-23 17_42.log:598:2025-03-23 18:16:34:654 [com.garmin.exploresync][Device] [3492217748][Debug] smart - onReceivedRequest: {"waypoints":[{"uuid":"lAMn0AAAAIAAEAAAGwAAAA==","dataPartVersionStamp":{"editTime":1742778961,"derived":true},"notePartVersionStamp":{"editTime":1742778961}}]}
To me this indicates it sent the payload to the device, and received ACK? from the device?

There's more entries in the log that matches the waypoint uuid. But not able to make out why the bug.

Looks like the note part have a timestamp being sent back/forth (epoch down to seconds), so should work assuming it's tracking who made what change and when. The timestamp of the original note from Device edit to phone is 1742778904, which is earlier than 1742778961. So that part is ok.

Anyway hope they can track this down. The reason this is important is because editing the title/notes of a waypoint on the phone is a frequent use case, since editing it on the device is so painfully slow.

FYI this issue does not occur with a GPSMap 66s, using the very same instance of the App on iOS. Repeatedly modifying the waypoint notes on device or in the app, it synced correctly to the other side without any issue.

Only on the eTrex SE/Solar, the waypoint object seems to be corrupted on the device. Further editing of the waypoint notes on the device (with bluetooth turned off) simply does not work. The note is always blank afterwards.

Haven't gotten any update from Garmin after sending them the logs/screenshots. Will update this thread if I hear back.

Hi, I'm a pretty basic user of the Etrex SE and came upon this thread after a search.

I found that the waypoint notes disappeared from the Etrex SE device itself after synchronisation with the android app, though I didn't check if the notes were there just before I went into the app.

However, in the android app the waypoint note information did appear against each waypoint which was good, though I had taken details separately just in case.

Therefore, all the waypoint information including notes is transferred to the android app, but only the standard waypoint information is left on the Etrex and any notes have disappeared. I will need to experiment a bit more before I have faith in the notes not just disappearing completely.

Next, I need to find out how to transfer the British Grid co-ordinates on the Etrex device to the android app as it reverts to degrees and minutes.

If the application to which you want to transfer coordinates does not have the British Grid, you can change the grid in the device to WGS 84 and transfer the data in this system (coordinates will be converted to the WGS 84 system) .

It is beneficial to use a local reference system in the case of cooperation with a traditional map made in a specific projection or other users use data in this projection, in other cases the data according to which reference system we will use does not matter much.

Supplement:

All data from the device in FIT and GPX files (activity, track, routes, points) can be transferred to other applications regardless of the grid used in the device, data in FIT and GPX files are imported directly to the application.

Manual transfer of coordinates requires transformation to a datum supported by the target application.
