Display timeout does not work as expected

I can’t find a setting for display timeout for each activity.

After switching to the selected "Activity," go to setup and select the screen timeout duration.

Perform the same action when switching to a different "Activity".

(On each "Activity" screen, go to Setup and change the time.)

Screen timeout isn't a global setting for all "Activities" on Garmin devices.
This is likely the case with the H1 as well.

As I mentioned in my previous post the timeout settings show the same time for all activities.

So when the display shuts off after a couple of seconds, after changing activities, checking the timeout on the newly selected activity shows the setting at 2 minutes. Which is the same setting as the initial activity, which actually did shut off after 2 minutes

I sent a video to Garmin, at their request, and they have told me they will be investigating.

Profiles as they work on the older devices don't exist anymore on the GPSMAP H1 (even the GARMIN\Profiles folder is gone).

Most settings are now global, as is the case for the display timeout setting. Only some settings are configurable per activity, like a couple of map settings, map and compass dashboards, and auto pause and auto lap.

Okay, I wouldn't associate global settings with "Profiles" or "Activity." Just because a feature exists on devices with "Profiles" doesn't mean it can't work similarly on devices with "Activity.
"Activity" isn't the determining factor.

A new device, new software, and the lack of the ability to select a different location in Demo mode (as you wrote) probably isn't caused by changing "Profile" to "Activity."

The key is the developer's actions, not "Activity" or "Profile."


As for the display, "Position Factor," "Heading," or Units, I don't think they're subject to global settings.

You assumed that the display timeout setting on the GPSMAP H1 can be configured per activity. I actually see on my GPSMAP H1 that this is not the case, and that the setting is global and independent of what Activity you have selected. And this applies to many more system settings, including Position Format, and Units for example.

So this has definitely changed from how Garmin outdoor handhelds used to work. Just because a feature works in some way on older devices doesn't mean it will work similarly on newer devices... If your GPSMAP H1 behaves differently, please share your insights.

So to get back to the original subject of this topic, there's no need to change activity and set the screen timeout differently, because it is not tied to each activity.

It also doesn't mean it won't work – so it's worth checking various possible options.

Users wrote that the timeout isn't working, but they didn't specify what checks they performed. In this case, the user wrote a bit more, saying that changing the timeout worked, but after switching to a different "Activity," the screen turned off after a short time. It's possible to ask whether it was a coincidence that after switching to a different "Activity," the selected (global) timeout expired, or whether the default setting of 15 seconds in the newly opened "Activity" was in effect.

This wasn't known at the time.

I don't actually know if the timeout works correctly, as no one has confirmed it.

This isn't a good solution, Position Forma is a global setting. When you create a custom grid, the Position Forma will be displayed for all "Activities." Displaying a custom Position Forma is useful for maps using this data format, but can be inconvenient for others. Therefore, you'll have to change the grid each time you want to use such a map.

The situation is similar with Units; when using "Marine," it's useful to use other units.

There are two options, "Time to turn off the screen" and "Time to turn off the backlight".

If we set the time to turn off other than "Never" the screen will be backlit until the set "turn off" time.

When selecting the screen timeout (turn off) setting to "Never," the screen will not turn off, but the backlight time settings will remain in effect.

At the specified timeout, the screen will stop being "backlit," but will not be turned off.

In my opinion, this is how the control of the "blanking" and backlighting of the screen should work
