Full screen notifications are troublesome

Post by micah356 »

Despite the many (justified) complaints people have about the new eTrex, it has been working fairly well for my use case: simply following a route on a map.

There is one issue that is a constant annoyance though: full screen notifications. There are two types of these that happen frequently: on/off course warnings, and lost satellite reception.

When either of these things occurs, a full screen notification box is displayed, completely blocking out whatever screen you were looking at before (usually the map, in my case).

For the off course warning, this is especially infuriating - if I have just missed a turn, how does it make sense to block my view of the map for 30 seconds? There is a button at the bottom of the screen that allows the notification to be dismissed, but this can be hard to do when riding a bicycle, and also can't be done at all when I have to lock the screen when riding in the rain.

For the off course warning, I would actually prefer to just be able to disable it entirely, but as far as I can tell this option does not exist in the settings. But if it cannot be disabled, it should at least be made smaller, maybe in the bottom or corner of the screen, and maybe have the time of the notification be adjustable.

Has anyone else encountered this issue, and found a solution?
