THX!!!
Back to 4.20 is the goal. Higher versions didǹt work for me.
I had exact the same issue on the v6.0.0 update, if you are Dutch you can read the full thread I posted on this
Dutch GPS forum
Youtube video about my issue:
GPSMAP 66st - GPS Firmware 280 Update Infinite Loop Bug [1280 x 720].mp4
Basically the issue was there was no GPS firmware anymore and the 66ST was in an infinite loop to update.
Tried everything from GPSrChive to set back old firmware etc. nothing...
FIX: I ended up by accidentally removing the batteries before I went to bed and the next morning I put back the batteries again and it all magically succeeded updating the GPS firmware. So if this happen to you first try to remove the batteries for at least 12 hours. When turning on your device for the first time again do a HARD RESET.
Maybe the Garmin has a "memory" (similar to a computer BIOS) that needs to reset itself ONLY when batteries are out long enough.
I don't know, at least try it it might fix your problem too.

How do I Master Reset my GPSMAP 66?
1. Power the GPSMAP 66 off.
2. Press and hold the (Page) and (Enter) buttons simultaneously.
3. Press and release the (Power) button.
4. The GPSMAP 66 will begin the boot process.
5. Release the (Page) and (Enter) buttons after the backlight illuminates.
6. When prompted "Erase all user data?", select [Erase].
