FYI - just pulled our 3597 out of mothballs to get familiar with it again and watched while Garmin REMOVED device features via bluetooth connection without user permission!
It appears the 'photoLive' Traffic CAM feature, which was one of the reasons we did purchase this device originally,
has been removed.
Thank you, Garmin! (not really)
Thank you for taking the time to test. Since I don't have the device from new, I don't know that, but even their smartlink app doesn't work properly, crashing when I open map on my iPhone.

There are three route planning preferences to choose from in the device,
"Shorter time" in most cases does not take into account lower category roads,
you can try to plan a route according to the criterion, "Shortest" or "Lowest fuel consumption".
With the criterion "Lowest fuel consumption "the algorithm prefers roads with lower speeds.
Thank you a lot for that insight!

You can also use the 'Avoidance' or 'Custom avoidance' option. '
Avoidance' allows you to select road features that will be subject to avoidance,
The 'Custom avoidance' option allows you to designate an area that will be skipped.

Good tip!
I was asking myself that! If I could use to avoid "non paved routes", in order to avoid crazy re-routings

Direction to unpaved roads or parking lots is a longer story.
Direction to unpaved roads during navigation is often the result of an error when developing the map.
If no speed has been assigned to an unpaved road, there is an alternative, whether to set a route (Shorter time)
on a road to which a speed of, for example, 60 km/h is assigned, or on a road where there is no speed assigned, according to the algorithm, the faster route will be the road to which no speed has been assigned,
despite the fact that it is an unpaved road, because the speed on this road has not been limited.
