No click sound from the speaker for an audible click is one thing...no click sound or physical tactile feel of a click from the button itself (even when the unit is powered off) is a sure sign of hardware button switch failure. The click is felt as well as heard with normal switch operation. Garmin should take care of this for you. I personally would not open the unit to check for the issue and try to correct it...it could be the switch itself (internal failure) or the soldering of the switch to the PCB. I personally have 45+ years of soldering and electronics repair experience but I would not try a self-repair or even an investigation possibly leading to a repair attempt (this can be tempting). Definitely let Garmin handle it. A repair attempt may go sour and then Garmin would not want to handle the warranty repair/replacement.MikeD wrote: Sat Nov 01, 2025 3:26 pm Critically when pressing all the other keys, I get a click from the sounder. Not so with the action key

Re: Action Button not working
Thanks for your advice, definitely leaving it alone
Button feel is the same, on or off. Rubbery or “ squidgy “ ( technical expression!)
Will be on the phone 0830 GMT Monday

Re: Action Button not working
Their tech support has always been excellent in the ~25 years I have been using their products (unlike their recent software development beginning with the nuvi automotive products). My first Garmin was an eMap (circa 2000).
They will take good care of you and more than likely just send you a replacement unit and you then send them the defective unit in return. I really doubt they will repair the defective unit. If replacement is the case, be sure and tell them of any mapping products you may have purchased for the old/defective unit so they can transfer those mapping products or subscriptions over to the replacement unit.
Let us know the outcome.

A few years ago I changed a unit and visited their Euro-HQ near Southampton -UK. They swopped the data while I waited

Re: Action Button not working
Update
Replacement initiated without question. My old unit is now with UPS
Just for info the normal exchange method is shipping back to Garmin using their UPS return label. Once received they despatch replacement
I asked if replacement despatch today was available. It is.
Alternative procedure is as above but they took a GBP360 deposit until they get the item back. Credit card details were given . A Pending item has appeared on my Cr Card statement. They then release the deposit when They get it back. This is ok for me and will save 4-6 working days

So another hardware v7.
Do the button test to confirm they all respond 'in the test' for future reference!
Enjoy your new (new) GPSMAP H1!

Button test passed. See attached
FYI the “feel “ of the action button is the same as the power button both in terms of pressure needed and travel
Set up was quicker having now done it 5+ times!
