With software 4.70 there are now i can see the following.
GPX auto acrhive is renamed to Auto Save (as already mentioned by GPSrchicve admins).
Auto save options are now 5:
When Full
Daily
Weekly
Auto
Never
What does Auto mean?
I will need to let the unit run for a while to see how the activity saving works.

'GPSrChive > GPSMAP 66 > Setup > Recording > Auto Save' has been updated to reflect firmware v470 changes. You may have to 'refresh' your browser to see the updated page.

It appears bug 85 is no longer an issue with firmware 470. Please test and report!

Looks fine.
Both gpx and fit are auto saved.

Apologies for dragging up an old thread, but did anyone get to the bottom of how "Auto" works / its saving logic?

Beyond that, Garmin have offered no additional insight.
