Even with the trip computer set to record only "During Activity", "total ascent" continues to accumulate elevation when not recording, including after resetting.

I have been testing all day with a GPSMAP 66i v8.10, GPSMAP 66st v7.20, and GPSMAP 66sr v3.30. I was unable to observe any change from zero in any data field in the Recording Controls page 'Info Tab'.
But then, I tabbed over to the Elevation Plot Tab' on each device, and behold, they all had elevation plots with total ascent values greater than zero!
Tabbing back to the Recording Controls 'Info Tab' and Total Ascent still shows zero.

Garmin have been advised.

Thanks, and apologies I should have been more clear in that I was referring to the elevation plot page!

Well, it appears this may not be a bug after all.
As it turns out, the two data fields in question are not the same.
The Trip Computer data field is named 'Ascent - Total', and displays the total ascent accumulated for the recorded track or activity.
The Altimeter page data field is named 'Total Ascent', and this displays the total ascent accumulated between the last reset and the current time.
