I noticed, that routes on Montana 7xx can be only edited, when they were created on Montana directly. If you load a route via BaseCamp on Montana, you can't edit that route. I wonder, if this is on purpose? My old 276Cx is able to edit such routes.

Are they sent to the Montana 7x0 with 'Direct' or 'Guided' Routing?

Yes, those routes are with 'Guided' Routing. As I said, the old 276Cx can still modify such transferred routes, while Montana apparently is not able to to so.

This has been a limitation for all Garmin Outdoor Recreation handheld GPSr for as long as I can remember, although, now learning the GPSMAP 276Cx is capable of this, I am not quite sure why.

Almost as if Garmin intentionally handicaps their devices....

Garmin also confirmed, this is by design.
