Dakota 10 doesn't acquire satellites
Hello,
I have a friend with a Dakota 10, which now doesn't acquires sattelites.
We already update firmware, did factory reset, left it outdoor for about 40min and it doesn't acquire any satellites.
We also checked and it is not in demo mode.
All sattelites are grey and the bars almost have no height.
Is there something we can check on it? Some gps/antena connector?
Thank you for your help

How long has it been since it last showed satellite signals?
What is the current firmware version?

Re: Dakota 10 doesn't acquire satellites
I don't have that information :/ But it was at least more than 6 months that my friend contacted me with this issue. He doesn't use the gps a lot.
Regarding firmware it is on the latest 5.80
yesterday after making reset and connecting to garmin express we left it outside for more than half an our in gps mode and nothing. We tried switching waas on, and left it outside and nothing.
And it was on open area with clear sky.

We open it, clean contacts but it seems to be the same:
It seems the satellites and they move but it doesn’t fix.
Images have like one hour difference:
Strange also that the hour is not corrected, even after syncing with garmin express

See GPSrChive > How To... > EOW and follow that process to see if that gets the unit working again.
Please share your results!
Edit: I was unable to accomplish this with my Dakota 10.
Which device reset method was employed?

Re: Dakota 10 doesn't acquire satellites
Thank you for your solution, unfortunately it gives this error on every com port
We tried both reset via software and reset via button combinations .
Digging more with the ex owner he told us it is like this for 2-3 years and it was after a firmware update.
We even try to flash again the 5.80
Firmware via cdg file , but the device won’t load it. It boots normally. I even used firmware patcher to increase version number to one (I thought it may have protection against flashing the same firmware) but it is the same.
I placed the gupdate.gcd file on garmin folder…is there another way?
Thank you a lot for your help

I can only think of one other option at this time, and that is to do a Forced RGN Firmware installation.
Please see the GPSrChive > Oregon 7x0 > Firmware > RGN Firmware Install page for detailed instructions, obviously substituting the correct GCD firmware file for your Dakota.
Then perform another hard reset if necessary.

We tried that procedure. First the updater didn't detect the dakota.
We installed garmin usb drivers.
Now it deteceted, did the procedure, but the gps says system software missing.
Later we will try to repeat the process, or is there another way?
We are running windows 10, does it pose any problems? I remember that with gpsmap 60csx it didn't work.

Did the Dakota ever indicate it was installing software during the process?
Can you view files on the Dakota while it is connected via USB?
