Monty 650 works normally for the first 10~15 minutes, then the touch screen response goes a bit manky, finally after a few minutes, not responding at all. Rebooting does nothing but letting it sit, powered-down for a half hour or so will allow it to work again, after which it stops working again. Tired hardware reset, screen calibration, downgraded firmware to 6.0 (then changed it back to 7.6) nothing changes the behaviour. If the unit is plugged into the PC to charge, the touchscreen will not work at all unless the GPS is allowed to sit for a while before booting (after which it displays the behaviour above)I'm thinking the touchscreen sensor is gone but don't really know if the sensor is goofy or the GPS itself is goofy. Any suggestions?
Montana 650, firmware version 7.6

The Montana 600/650 uses a resistive touch screen film that is stretched over the outside of the display, and was prone to multiple common failures.

Thanks for the links. It seems replacing the touchscreen will fix the problem. I've ordered a replacement but I'm a little concerned about soldering those two flex cables together - can that be done with a regular soldering iron or is a hot air solderer required?GPSrChive wrote: ↑Mon Jun 27, 2022 11:48 am The Montana 600/650 uses a resistive touch screen film that is stretched over the outside of the display, and was prone to multiple common failures.

Found replacements on eBay. Made in China no doubt, but cheap enough so no great loss if it doesn't work out.
