Monty 650 Broken Power Button Cover.

Picked up another used Monty 650 today which sadly had the dreaded broken power button cover. I did a search and only found one thread on this issue, which was resolved by Garmin replacing the unit - I think it's too old for Garmin to do anything about it now (last time I contacted them about 650 issues they tolde me I was SOL.
So, it seems this is a rather common issue - I found button covers for sale on eBay and some goofy videos where people hack the back off the GPSr with an exacto knife to fit the new cover on. Surely there's a better way ????
