Routing problems in 5.40 and 5.50.
Suppose I want to move from point A (where I am) to point B (let's say 1000 meters away) on map.
To do this I will perform the following steps:
1- On the Main menu, press "Map".
2- On the "Map" menu scroll the map to find the target, point B.
3- Press on point B on map.
4- A "bubble" box, (containing a description and distance to point B), opens on top of page.
5- Press on the "bubble" box and more text and the "Go" button appears.
6- Press the "Go" button.
7- In less than a second the route is calculated and ready.
This works fine with FW 5.30 and that is the way I want it to work.
If FW 5.40 is installed, the following occur:
- When I press the "bubble" box in step 5, a spinning (supposed to spin) wheel, text and a "Go" button appear.
- If and when I press the "Go" button, nothing happens until after 18 seconds, then the route is ready.
If FW 5.50 is installed, the following occurs:
- When I press the "bubble" box in step 5, description and a "Go" button appear.
- There is no way to get anything to happen until after 35 seconds.
- Screen seems locked and it has happened that the Oregon freezes and must be restarted by battery off/on.
I have diagnosed this by downgrade FW 5.50 step by step.
For me, I will stay with 5.30 forever, unless Garmin fixes it in a future update.
Would kindly ask someone, still following this forum, to confirm my findings and comment on them.
Thanks.

Can I ask which maps were loaded and what your routing preferences are?
Thank You!

- Activity: Cycling.
- Calculation Method: Minimize Distance.
- Lock on Road: No.
- Avoidance Setup:

- All unticked
- There is a black portion on screen, to the left of the alternatives.
If You want a screen dump, pls advice.

Re: Routing problems in 5.40 and 5.50.
Addition:
If I check all four avoidances there will appear four checkmarks. Then the black areas on screen will disappear.
Have called a friend of mine, also the owner of an Oregon 600 on FW 5.50. He has the same bugs.

Anybody, that can confirm or comment on my findings, please do so.
All our three units behave the same. Must be a problem to other users, or?

Additional info:
If You visit this Garmin Forum (Germany), "my" 5.50 errors are shown and commented.
Look at post #7 and #8.

It is time for some efforts of Garmin software guys. BUT, there is a risk, that too much knowledge is lost, regarding Oregon 6x0. Therefore,
every new update/fix, may lead to a new bug.
Maybe, 5.30 should be considered the final release and the newer ones should be withdrawn.

Re: Routing problems in 5.40 and 5.50.
FYI, while I have not yet had time to test, this post and the Garmin.de post have both been submitted directly to Garmin software engineers for consideration.

I confirm. The behavior of my device (Oregon 600) is the same for firmware 5.40 and 5.50.
