I'm looking for a map similar to the pre-installed "Worldwide DEM Basemap", but a bit more detailed. I would like to use it on a plane to keep track of where I am. The OSM-based Garmin maps I found are too detailed for this purpose. I don't want to install individual countries. There are also maps for all of Europe, but they are larger than 10 GB.

You can choose the map of Europe that suits you in the installation version on computer,
also install the MapSource program.

On the map in MapSource, mark the route to the target point, then click the route and select the option
"Select maps near the route", an img file will be created that can be used on the device
containing map areas only along the flight route.

MapSource should be in a version that allows you to send the map file to your computer's disk,

In Base Camp, you can manually select map areas along the route to be sent to the device,

If you want to replace the Garmin basemap with a different map, it also must be worldwide.

Nobody mentioned changing the base map.

The base map does not have to be a map of the World, it is enough that it covers the area of ​​the detailed map.

There does not even have to be a base map in the device, then there may be problems
(long time of drawing the map) at a zoom above 5 km.
