66i and Strava issues !

So, im new on here...please be gentle with me lol.

Im lead to believe this may be a common problem with the above combination. ! My unit works fine and shows the full walked distance etc...both on the unit itself and on the Garmn app/web page etc. The problem lays when I pause the unit at coffee time (!) (manually or Auto) OR on the odd occasion, the unit temporarily freezes. . On Strava, the route ONLY shows the part until I have stopped. I have talked at length to Garmin and Strava, and as youd expect, both parties are blaming each other.
All firmware is up to date etc

Has anyone on here had the same issue...and have had any success resolving this frustrating issue ?

Many thank folks

Unfortunately this is a bug in the 66i (and other 66 series units). The device does not register the resume event correctly in the recorded activity file. As a result Strava will only show the part of the activity until the first pause.

This was an issue on the GPSMAP 67 series as well, but Garmin fixed it in a firmware update for those devices.

Interesting fact is that other platforms like Komoot ignore the missing resume events. So in that sense Strava could work around it. But in the end it’s an issue that should be fixed on the GPSMAP 66i.

Further to the above, , I have this today from Strava .
."Hello Martin,

Thank you for your follow-up.. We are aware of this issue regarding shortened activities recorded on Garmin handheld GPS devices due to improperly formatted pauses in the file that was synced to Strava. Since the issue was related to data written in the file Garmin's team has identified the cause and were working on a fix on their end. Garmin has confirmed that they have pushed a fix to newer handheld GPS devices that still have firmware support recently. If you are still having issues, we recommend that you contact Garmin to see if your device is eligible for the fix and how to update your device if it is.

If you have an older device that will not be getting the fix in question then Garmin may still have workarounds to limit the impact of this pause related issue on their end.

For your currently impacted activities, since this issue is caused by the way that autopause events are written in those activity files, you can export the TCX versions of your activity files, since those pause events will not be included as that file type does not store pauses it should allow the full GPS and time of your activity to display on your Strava activities uploaded from those TCX files.

Thanks in advance,
Marc

I have a 66sr. I don't use Strava any longer really but my Garmin and Strava accounts are still synced so my activities are still loading automatically to Strava. I just went to Strava and looked at hikes were I paused the recording when I stopped for lunch and resumed afterwards. All my activities seem show the entire route, including the part after the pause. The exact time is sometimes a little off between the two for some unknown reason, but I remember that as always being the case.
