Strange behaviour when geocaching with the H1 [Bugs 41, 45, 46, 47]

Today, I tested the geocaching functionality in particular. Geocaching and hiking are the main reasons I use my H1. I found some strange behaviours, which I have documented here with colourised screenshots.
  • If I click on an additional/child waypoint of a geocache, it looks quite strange: there is no map, just a pattern, and the distance is completely wrong. (Marked with red text in the screenshot.)
  • Cosmetic: While most geocaching symbols are the same style and size, event geocaches look different with a different style and a much larger size. (Marked with blue text in the screenshot.)
  • There is overlapping text formatting in descriptions. (Yellow marked in the screenshot.)
  • It is very strange: I deleted the geocaching live data (which now works with the new firmware version). I removed all existing GPX and GPI files containing geocaches. I then loaded five new geocaching GPX files, downloaded from geocaching.com. So far so good — they appear, including child points such as parking, etc.
However, I also found that two unwanted geocaches are still there. I remember that these are the ones where I had a crash when selecting them with FW 3.08 and loading a GPI file.
In addition: Geocaches that I found a long time ago and never manually loaded to the H1 appear on the device when "My Finds" is enabled in the Geocaching filter. Even after deleting the geocaching live data, they are still there. If I zoom in on a "found geocache", the icon disappears (marked in magenta in the screenshot). When I move the cursor over a found icon, no geocaching name is displayed, but they appear in the geocaching list without details. Selecting them establishes an online connection to load the data.
  • When I marked a geocache as found, the icon did not change to the 'found' icon. I tried this with multiple geocaches. Note: the finds are logged in the geocache-visits.txt file.
  • Cosmetic (?) I used the 'keyboard icon' on the keyboard itself to finish entering text when logging my finds. For me, this icon is a little unusual to be used as the 'Enter' key (green marked on screenshot).
Maybe somebody can try to reproduce and confirm or not confirm the strange behaviors.

Can’t comment on the geocaching stuff because I don’t geocache, but agree that pressing the little keyboard icon to save the text you entered is very unintuitive. A check mark would better convey the intent of the action.

I have no idea how to get the child waypoints that were added to the map via Geocaching Live. I have disconnected my account, turned off Wifi and Bluetooth and they are still there. And very large, blue and ugly. Maybe resetting the device will do the trick but weird behaviour for sure.

I too get these parking spots pop up
I never load the child waypoints after a PQ is added. Just the GC only
Today I got 5 pop up
To get rid of them treat it like deleting a waypoint
Click on the icon highlight the choice
Click 3 horizontal lines then delete
This does it
But like Arnold Swarzenager says “ They will be back!”
But why?!?!

Ps I will try deregistering and see what happens

I have deactivated The registration of the device and I now do not get the spurious pop-up parking way points
The device which is running 4.09 is connected to live Bluetooth and Wi-Fi

Thanks MikeD to confirm the ugly functionlity in the geocching functionality on the H1. If I find time I try also to unregister my device (form geocaching.com).
But actually, ‘Geocaching live’ is one of the reasons why I and others bought it. I hope it will work perfectly ore almos better soon – let's wait for the next firmware update.

Have you retested with Firmware v5.09 yet?

Testing Geocaching On 5.09 the strange behaviour still exists.
I chose an area 70 miles from my home location in the UK and downloaded live approximately eight geocache‘s.
With them came six blue parking locations.
I chose one of the geocache’s and set the device to go to it. That seemed okay in terms of direct routing compass et cetera.
Returning the Map to my home location, I had another six Parking locations pop-up.
I then got the device to delete live data, it did that but not the Parking locations
The Parking locations have to be deleted manually.
Geocache registration has now been removed again.!

Following my post just now I went through the process of deleting the Parking Way points.
I had de- registered the device.and carried on
I started with the 4 Way points nearest my location and they were successfully deleted. I then moved to those 70 miles away and started deleting those.
The deletion sequence takes you back to your nearest location each time and having as I thought deleted those nearest me they had popped up again!
I shut down Wi-Fi and Bluetooth and started again. This was successful in deleting the Parking locations.
I rebooted and no parking places had got back in!

Added to GPSrChive > GPSMAP H1 > Common Issues:
  • Bug 41. Removing GCLive Data does not remove additional waypoints originally loaded with GCLive geocaches.
  • Bug 45. The keyboard icon used for the 'Enter' button on the keyboard is confusing and unintuitive.
  • Bug 46. The Map page frequently jumps back to the current location following any user input after panning to a different map location.
  • Bug 47. Geocaches logged as 'Found' are not displayed with the traditional 'Smiley Face' symbol - Instead a large obnoxious blue flag balloon is shown.
