“Reset” is not working after 4.09

Unread post by MikeD »

I only have one activity set up on the device and went for a two hour walk this morning.
I successfully changed the track colour to red and that shows.
If I now try and reset the activity,ie clear the memory of that recent activity nothing happens.
The normal reset page appears and after pressing the two required areas nothing happens. When I revert to the Map page, the track is still there. The timer has not reset either.
I would expect it to clear the track And delete any other record associated with the last time period for this activity.
Has anyone else encountered this recent problem?

Can revert to 4.08 firmware by using the procedures set out in this forum/ website?

I have reverted to 4.08 and “ reset”. Works again
Having to set up the device again was a pain

I just get a “ Nag “ every I turn on the device to Upgrade the software!

I will report it to Garmin

If you feel like experimenting, I would try to update back up to v4.09 again to see if the issue still happens. The reason I say this is that in some cases, these units may get into a "state" (or glitch) where something gets stuck and the unit actually needs to only be reset. Reverting back down to a previous firmware will actually perform a reset. That *may* be what fixed it and actually the reset itself was all that was needed (Master Reset procedure is in the Troubleshooting section). But then again, it may actually be a bug in 4.09. Thanks for posting your report...it helps all.

How are you attempting to 'Reset the Activity'?

Please be very specific.

I set up a button in one of the glances. I think this is from the Settings menu. See image attached.
I only have one activity on the unit. I deleted all the “ not required” ones
Continual pressing of this button or going back to the Settings menu had no effect.
I note the comments made by WallyGator. Above and this is noted. Having spent a couple of hours rolling back the firmware and resetting the unit I’m a bit loath to do that at this time . it is the second time I’ve had to roll back or reinstall firmware. The first time was because the over the air firmware update didn’t work properly.
I’m on my second unit here as the first one was replaced by the dealer because of start up closing issues.
I know “glitches“ occur from time to time, but it is not right.
I have reported the issue to Garmin, I don’t know whether I will get a reply

UPDATE
So I swallowed hard and ran the update. ( In part to avoid the annoying Nag to update)

The update was run
The RESET BUTTON now works as expected!

What can one say?
Perhaps it was a Glitch as previously flagged! Who is to know?

Sadly this is the second “ software upgrade” failure I have had with the H1 and this is my second device
For me, not the best new device launch. I have had Garmins since 2000

Let’s Hope the identified bugs and feature requests are looked at and delivered soon

Those of us that have been using Garmin products for some time know they are always a bit buggy when first released, and that most of the bugs will eventually get sorted, but this device has unfortunately set a new low standard!

Thanks for taking the dive again. Some of the bugs reported may in fact be temporary glitches which can be resolved by either power-cycling the unit or hard resetting it which admittedly is NOT the answer since it can take a lot of time to get these units set up to your personal liking.

I am keeping a close eye on these GPSMAP H1 discussions since I'm now in the possession of the new eTrex Touch which seems to be running the same OS and firmware (limited in ways though because of the various hardware differences). Going by what I've been seeing as far as some demo videos and screenshots of the H1 and comparing to the eTrex Touch, they could be running the same firmware with possibly the H1 features being bypassed/discarded in the eTrex Touch when the firmware is loaded. It seems the firmware release version numbers have been the same so one would assume that the firmware itself is.

It would be interesting to see if the firmware update files are the same (byte count and file comparison) for both unit series.

I downloaded the v4.08 firmware files for both the H1 & eTrex Touch from GPSrChive and they are nowhere being close to one another as far as file size goes...H1 is more than double the size of the Touch. As far as shared bugs and issues, they could very well be the same. Time will tell.
