Occasional lost/disappearing activities [Bug 14]

Example - today, about a 2.5 hour activity.
I save the activity on the eTrex SE and all appears fine (and no freezing etc.)

On syncing via Garmin Explore on the iPhone (iOS 18.7.8), everything again seems to work OK, but then I see my activity is missing.
I look at the eTrex and it appears to be missing from the activities list there too.
I try syncing to Garmin Connect instead, which I also have stored on the iPhone. It doesn't display it either.
Finally I connect via Bluetooth and using OpenMTP (I am using a Mac, Sequoia 15.7.8) and the file is missing from the Activities folder.

Overall, this has happened three times - once ages ago, and a couple recently (possibly both after the upgrade to 5.11 firmware).

What I did do just now is create another very brief activity, save it, and sync again, and that one worked as it should

a) has anyone else had this problem (it doesn't seem like it)?
b) is there some upper limit on the number of activities the eTrex can store. I rather assumed if there was that the oldest might be lost first. OpenMTP suggests there are 106, and the largest .FIT file is 140kb, most are much smaller. OpenMTP doesn't show the free space on the device.

To confirm, the date and time on the Etrex is correct (and is acquired from the GPS anyway…)

To the best of my knowledge there's no way to get an MTP device to show as a Volume so I might try to use a file recovery program (such as Photorec) on it.

Thank you!

To clarify, the activity was saved on the device the first time, and was shown in the activity list, but after the sync with Explore it was no longer displayed?

You may want to configure activity recording to save as both FIT and GPX, then you may be able to find the 'twin' recording in the GPX directory next time.

Yes. Slightly different but this happens sporadically. And without any logic.

I complete an activity, usually, but not always, a long one, over 30 minutes, for example. I save on the Etrex, at that time, one of two things happens.
1. The etrex unit reboots. The activity is completely lost.
2. The etrex says saving, but doesnt complete that and freezes on the saving screen. The activity is lost.

At the same time, the activity can be seen on the phone, in Garmin Explore. It remains there, even after the etrex has failed. But it cannot be saved or manipulated in any way on the Explore app. So it is lost.

This defect makes the unit unusable as it is unrelaible. So I have stopped using it. I already got a replacement unit from Garmin, but of course, it is the same because the fault is in the firmware...
