I read a review from a user who claims he cannot load external maps - Open Street Maps - onto the SD card. I could only do it on the main memory.

Is this true?

Not entirely.

We have several OSM maps on our Montana 7x0 microSD card and they work just fine.

However, Garmin have identified an issue that may result in some maps and/or other data not being read properly from microSD cards, and are working on a correction, which would presumably be included in an upcoming firmware update.

I'm glad that's the case. Otherwise I would forget about this device.
