CPE
What is CPE on an Outdoor
Product?
- Connected Predictive Ephemeris
(CPE) files allow GPS receivers to predict where satellites will be in the
sky, significantly reducing signal acquisition time.
- Without current CPE information loaded, the
GPSr can require several minutes to locate available GNSS signals.
- With current CPE information loaded, the GPSr
will usually find available GNSS signals within just a few seconds.
- Tip:
The CPE file provides global constellation coverage and does not need to be
updated after changing location.
How do I check CPE Status?
- CPE status can be checked in the
'System > About' or 'Setup > About' page on many Garmin outdoor products.
- You can also manually check the 'Date
modified' status for the [GPSr]\Garmin\GPS\CPE.BIN
file on your device.
- CPE files do expire, and are usually
only good for a range of 3-14 days.
- Sync the device regularly to keep
CPE data current.
How is CPE Data Downloaded?
- Satellite location information is refreshed
periodically when your GPSr syncs data with your smart phone.
- This data is also refreshed if the device has
not been used in over 30 days, or when it has traveled more than 200 miles
from its last satellite connection.
- Frequently syncing your GPSr via the Garmin
Connect or Explore mobile apps, Garmin Express, or by connecting to an active Wi-Fi
network will ensure the most current satellite location information is always
available.
Manual CPE Download +
Installation
- Should your Garmin GPSr exhibit trouble
updating CPE data, follow these steps to manually obtain and install a current
CPE.BIN file:
- GPSMAP 67, 67i (Airoha
/ MediaTek GNSS Chipset)
- GPSMAP
65, 65s, 66sr (Broadcom GNSS Chipset)
- Option 1:
- Option 2:
- Download and unzip
CPEupdate.
- Windows users run
getCPE.cmd,
Linux/Unix users run
getCPE.sh.
- A new CPE.BIN
file
will appear in the same directory (you may have to refresh the directory).
- Copy this file to the [GPSr]\Garmin\GPS\
directory on your Garmin Outdoor device.
- Tip: Copy
the \CPEupdate\ folder to your Garmin GPSr
and run the updater while connected to any computer with an active
internet connection (CPE.BIN will automatically be placed in correct directory).
- Sony GNSS Chipset
- (GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, QZSS):
- (GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, BeiDou, QZSS):
- Open Windows Terminal (press
Win
+ R, type
wt,
press enter) and copy / paste the following command:
- curl -o
CPE.BIN
"https://api.gcs.garmin.com/ephemeris/cpe/sony/lle?coverage=WEEKS_1&constellations=GPS,GLONASS,GALILEO,BEIDOU,QZSS"
- Copy CPE.BIN
from [C:]\Users\{User
Name}\
to the [GPSr]\Garmin\GPS\
directory on your Garmin Outdoor device.
- Restart the GPSr and verify CPE status is
'Current'.
