Awkward battery management on 66s?!?

Unread post by LaVitaeBella »

Hi,

As i said in a subject i have a problem with the Awkward battery management on 66s? I recently bought 2nd hand 66s, rest to factory, update to latest firmware and now I'm facing annoying issue with totally wrong battery status.

For example if I put totally new Duracell AA immediately after boot up it shows 80% than after hour or so it drops down to 40% and after another couple of hours it switch off on its own. After boot up it shows 20% and than it switched off again after just a couple of minutes.

And now the funny thing is that if I take out those batteries and put it in my oldie 62s it shows that batteries are still on 100% capacity.

And yes, it is the same if use alkaline or NiMh batteries..

Anyone having such problems? What can be reason for this?

How do you have 'Setup > System > Battery Type' configured on your 66s?

See GPSrChive > GPSMAP 66 for additional details.

Hi,

according to battery type of course, I even try to make an adapter to trick unit to switch to automatic NiMH mode but again the same, no matter what battery type I put in or which settings I choose.

Well, it sounds like maybe you have discovered why this device was sold second hand. I would not be surprised to find out some alkaline batteries were left inside too long and they leaked, potentially damaging the internal electronics.
