After installing 8.80 Garmin Express also presented another update: 'Etyp'.
Upon some further investigation it looks like an updated map theme. There is a new file in the Garmin\SID directory called da699000c.sid. TopoActive seems to display differently than before this update, for example trails and cycleways are now displayed with a red dashed line.
Need to dig deeper into this and see how it affects third party maps. Anyone else who installed this update see any differences?
I am in the UK with European topo maps on a 67
I don’t see any colour change on Paths etc still all grey
However I don’t recall seeing “ Sidewalk/trail “ used before for our smallest paths
We have Footpaths, Bridleways, as our basic paths
I have Talkytoaster maps based on OSM , much better than G. Topo
I don’t see any change to those in terms of definition of the Trail type or colouring

I'll post some screenshots later today.
Did you get the Etyp software update as well? Both Garmin Express and Explore app offered it. You can also check whether you have the .sid file on your device.
I'm also using TalkyToaster, styling seemd unchanged on first glance, but I didn't do a detailed comparison.
But I did notice a bug that when you start the device with TT map enabled, switch to TopoActive and switch back to TT, that the TT map is displayed differently than before switching to TopoActive: e.g. residential areas have dashed lined in them, these disappear after switching from TT to TopoActive and back again.

Yes I have the new SID I am not sure what the ETyp files are you refer to are. Sorry
I am not getting the change to TalkyT maps you refer to on switching back and forth
But
The GTopo maps are now showing Red Trails and Sidewalks. Also the POI icons seem more pronounced and in “boxes”
Plugging in the 67 to windows Basecamp and the local Topo map. Western Europe the sidewalks and trails are still grey on the PC

Etyp is what Express (and Explore) shows as the name of the update, see below screenshot. The actual file installed is Garmin\SID\ da699000c.sid.

See the following screenshots I made:
Switching between TT, TopoActive and TT
TT after startup.bmp
TopoActive.bmp
TT after switch back.bmp
The first one is with TT enabled after powering on the device, the second one is when disabling CityNavigator layer and enabling TopoActive (Buildings layer is not enabled so that explains the missing buildings), the third one is after switching back to CityNavigator and disabling custom maps except TT (because all custom maps are enabled when enabling CityNavigator layer).
Also interesting that in the first screenshot the residential area is displayed as yellow, but on the device itself is displayed as grey. So apparently there's a difference between what's on screen and what's in the screenshot

Yes, I noticed the POi icons being different as well.

That's because Basecamp uses the map style included in the map itself, not the map style/theme that's now on the GPSMAP 67.

A some here are already aware, Garmin IMG maps are primarily just large collections of coordinates with information added to identify individual features for items like roads, paths, fields, forests, water, etc. How the GPSr displays each features depends on how they are defined by a TYP file embedded within the IMG map itself. Applying different TYP files to the same map can drastically alter how it appears.
I suspect these 'Etyp' files may include 'Extended TYP' data to be applied to specific maps in an attempt to achieve a more uniform appearance across multiple map layers and styles.
If anyone else knows or learns more about this subject, please do not hesitate to share with us.
Thank you!
