I think there's a common saying about doing things over and over expecting a different outcome.

I got the Tread2 out of the box, updated, and installed. The first issue was that when entering info for a wifi connection, I could not complete/submit the wifi info by hitting submit ">". But when I backed out of the registration window, oh look at that, wifi connected! This happened with all 3 wifi registrations I added.
Once on my motorcycle, there were several times where it booted up and acted like it forgot I already set the device up, asking for things such as:
Choose a language, or
Choose a vehicle profile, or
Connect to the Garmin Tread app, etc
Which is how my two replacement Tread BEs acted, so I figure those will eventually go away.
Very minor, but since taking it out of the box, the USB flap/cover has not stayed closed. Great for waterproofing, I'm sure.
End of my first weekend trip, before unpacking the bike, I go to stop my InReach Mini 2 via the Tread 2. But touches and taps do nothing. I reboot the device. Still no touch. Took the device in, trying to reboot it with different powered cables, hi power, low power, a cable that kicked off the "Click to connect to a computer" prompt. Finally, touch came back! Pretty sure that was just luck of the draw, not anything I specifically did.
A few more language or profile prompts through the next week, and then another weekend trip. As I'm getting ready to come home, it comes on, and once again with the no touch / unresponsiveness. I now had the Remote Controller installed, so I tried a few Screen Lock on / Screen Lock off to no avail. A few reboots, powered and unpowered. Nope. So I found Home in the Tread app and "Send to device". I already had buttons on the remote setup for Up Ahead and Overview, so all was fairly fine - I just can't touch the screen, dismiss any popups (except for popups that only had a single button with a "+" on them). Got home and tried everything again, all the different USB cables, reboots, lengths of time holding the power button down, removed the screen protector, etc. Nada.
Did a support chat this morning and they are having me send it back. Unlike the Tread BE exchanges, they want /everything/ back; mount, wiring harness, etc. They also want videos of the Tread 2 booting up and not accepting touch, pics of my mount install, where the harness is attached to the motorcycle battery...
I haven't done extensive searching/digging, but I did see a few posts online about Zumo XT2 devices losing screen touch; not clear on whether those were fixed or whatnot.
Garmin initially wanted to do the whole "Do a complete uninstall, send us everything, and when it arrives we'll send the replacement." $850+ and I get the pleasure of going a week+ without. Nice. Don't even get me started on them not allowing UPS to do shipping redirects (getting packages in SF is a PITA). After making a snarky complaint, they offered an Immediate Replacement Send with a $420 deposit, which is fair enough, so I took it. Unexpectedly, when I checked out, that deposit was already waived - I was pleasantly surprised and it was greatly appreciated.
So yay, new Tread 2, Exchange #1 already in the mail.
I guess I'll report back as is applicable.

As far as Tread vs Tread2, there are some nice additions (I'm not sure how many of them were already on the XT2 or possibly got added to it after the Tread2 release).
Implementation of the Remote Controller is a little week, but nice to have nonetheless. The 4 buttons can each be programmed to do a thing each for short or long press. Volume or Zoom are the same for short/long, so those buttons only really get one thing programmed to them.
I have one button set up to show the new Overview where you get a split screen with standard "nav style" view on one side and north up overview of your route/track on the other.
Another button setup to show the Up Ahead display, but the remote cannot be used to select and click into one of the three categories.
The charging mount looks a little nicer, a little beefier, with extra rubber nubs sticking up, and two more tiny screws holding the cable into the mount. Hopefully these will help with my nemesis of the pogo/charging issues.
There is still no floating compass needle on the map display. Oh wells.
Screen lock. This is golden, and if the Tread2 works out for me, is almost worth the cost of admission by itself.

Anywho, waiting for replacement number one...
