Maps reducing in size.

It had a fresh format and within 24 hours I had to do factory reset after it updated from version 5.30* to the latest.
It looked like the update downloaded via WiFi but my phone still managed to shove 2 updates to it (without changing the version in about)

It is always good practice to update an electronic device to the latest software version available before using it.
Also Garmin also pushes other updates than firmware updates, for example time zone updates or available map data. So that explains why Explore or Connect pushes other updates.

I don't have a computer to use "garmin express"
I already have 4 garmin apps for this device already installed on my phone....... connect, connect iq, wikiloc and explore.

Wikiloc is not a Garmin app but a third party app. Connect is only needed if you want to sync activities to Garmin Connect. The Garmin app situation is kind of a mess, but Connect = Garmin fitness world and Explore = Garmin outdoor world.

So my routes, my way points, my geocaches, my recorded activities, my tracks and my profiles spent time on are about to flushed

If you use the Explore app most of your user data will be synced back to the GPSMAP after a reset. See https://support.garmin.com/en-US/?faq= ... 7CT2dvcFm5 for what data is synced.

The GPSMAP 67 is not a very intuitive device and there are a lot of things that can be improved by Garmin but I would recommend first trying to learn how to use it instead of bashing it. And if it isn’t for you, that’s fine, just return it or sell it and use something else.

So without a card you couldn't have USA and Europe downloaded on the device at the same time! Wow. Just had to pinch myself and check the calender to check we are in 2024.

Just curious but for what purpose do you need maps of so many areas installed on the device? Personally I don’t really mind because I’m either in Europe or in the USA but not in both, but my use cases may not be your use case.

A map in my pocket, I can arrange meetings at locations with friends, I like to watch my friends in youtube and see where they are, I like to plan roadtrips, cycle rides and motorcycle long weekend breaks, city breaks, travel to festivals, to see where my family live abroad and how far things are away from them.

Where is the nearest pub or bar when I get out of the taxi, station or airport. Etc etc.
Burning man campsites and locations of interest in the playa.
I record all my hikes, dog walks, geocaching expeditions. I like record off piste locations and trails as well as plan them on the device so I can just follow the compass.

If I hear news about an area I can go and look to see what it's like, I can copy the routes and points of interest and compile my own routes and tracks.

Basically all the functions it advertised drew me to the device. I've given it a fair crack of the whip and more time than would given how much its failed and doesn't do what it's supposed to. I didnt get the latest and greatest to be a Guinea pig or fault finder. I'm the end user the consumer that wants all the functionality I paid for. If it was working fine then no need to bash it but daily it let's itself down in new ways so I don't feel bad about describing its total failures.

I'll keep an eye on the bug list, when it turns to green and they start finishing the software then they are worthy of my time and money, till then its just naff and not good enough.
I've been a loyal garmin user, I dumped magellon in the early 2000s and have logged 10s of thousands of miles by road, canoe , aeroplane and sea with garmins.

Quite often there is no phone signal so I prepare my time ahead so I can easily navigate to locations I need to be at, sometimes work but mostly pleasure.
I use my phone as a phone, I don't navigate with it or log my tracks with it, don't Facebook or any social media with it.

Like you said, I've been lucky enough to be sent a defective device, but the list of bugs is vast and they aren't going away anytime soon by the look in the history/firmware versions effected. When it's finished and ready for the consumer I might try again but at the moment I don't trust it not just to delete random stuff, even entire countrys data so I wouldn't attempt to do any serious travel with it.

Shame as I wasted months researching what was the best handheld device that suited my needs.
