Oregon 650 issues with plotting route

Unread post by julie01 »

Garmin Oregon 650 - I have not used this for a while but did not used to have an issue with Basecamp. I tried creating a route earlier on my windows laptop and no matter what settings I tried whenever I was half way round a route BC would then create its own and join my route to make it circular, yet not mark in cerise the route I was trying to plot. I.E. it would create another route starting from my initial starting point and try to make the route circular before I had finished. If I continued to plot the route lots more lines would try to join my route.

I have attached a screen shot.

You will see that when planning the route I had continued to plot along the path on the left hand side of the map which is green with triangles along it, which I have highlighted in red, yet on the right hand side of the map the line from my original starting point, just missed off the bottom of the page but I have put a red 'splodge' on the map magically appears and tries to join the red highlighted path and my route disappears. I continue to plot the route but lines from the right hand side of the map attempt to join where I have tried to plot.

My apologies, as its difficult to explain. I hope that makes sense. Has anyone else experienced this.

The route highlighted in red is where I have half successfully tried to plot my route. The route highlighted in blue is what BC has generated itself. Both the red and blue routes start in the same place.

In Base Camp you can adjust the route calculation method
Edit - Options - Activity Profile - Route Calculation.

Automatic route calculation is subordinated to the criteria Shortest time or Shortest route
which causes the route to be calculated not always in accordance with our expectations.
You can exclude some road categories which can bring the calculated route closer to our expectations.
If the route you have mapped out is different than you expect, you can map out a route using a track, and then change the track to a route, making sure that the processed route does not exceed 50 points.

Continuation:
I should add one more piece of information: in order to preserve the shape of the route after sending to the device,
the route should be plotted on the same map (the same map version) that is on the device.
Plotting a route on a different map than the one on the device may result in an error related to the course of the roads.
The topic of routes is extensive and cannot be covered in its entirety; there is also the possibility of navigating according to a direct route and according to a track.
