Montana 700i Lifetime Maps

just to say i have just downloaded NTU europe maps onto my 700i,replacing the NT europe,so looks like lifetime maps is still valid

Yes it is. All customer, who initially got NT maps and Garmin now provides NTU maps as replacement, will now get NTU maps in their lifetime subscription (which is bond to device) for Montana, but not for older devices Like Nüvi.

That is not completely true. The only devices that get NTU maps to replace the NT maps are the GPSMAP 276 Cx with a lifetime subscription and the Montana 7x0i.
The number of GPSMAP 276Cx with lifetime is limited because Garmin stopped producing DVDs with City Navigator around the time that the 276Cx was introduced. Getting a lifetime subscription is only possible for preinstalled maps or for the maps bought on DVD.

Also, later nüvi models came with NTU maps initially. These still get map updates.
