I keep a all my tracks and waypoints for the area I'm hiking in loaded on an internal SD card copied from Basecamp. That way I can manage new tracks and waypoints just by finding them in the Montana's internal memory in Basecamp. These SD card waypoints and tracks have always shown in the Track Manager and Saved Tracks.
After the last Montana 760i firmware update, anything on the SD card appears and disappears at random. When I turn on the GPS, if the progress bar that says loading tracks, waypoints, and routes takes time, then everything shows up. But sometimes on startup the progress bar appears for an instant, or not at all, and then only the tracks and waypoints in the internal memory show up.
Anyone seen this behavior? Does this mean I have a corrupted track or waypoint that it can't load? Why would it sometimes work then?

The cause of random reading of data from the SD card may be unstable contact in the card slot.csewell wrote: Tue Jun 03, 2025 6:38 pm When I turn on the GPS, if the progress bar that says loading tracks, waypoints, and routes takes time, then everything shows up. Maybe clean the card contacts.

That can't be it, as all the maps stored on the card still show up. And everything shows up in Basecamp when I plug it into a USB port. Now for some reason I can't get anything stored on the SD card to show up except the maps.

Maybe it's the size of the card. I have been using a 64GB microSD all along without problems until now, but 32GB is supposed to be the maximum supported size. Guess I'll order a 32GB card and see if that makes a difference.

As far as I know, the Montana 760i supports 32GB cards formatted in the FAT 32 file structure,
data on a card formatted in the exFAT file structure will be read by the computer
but will not be visible on the device unless the card over 32GB is formatted to Fat 32.

It was apparently the unsupported card size of 64GB I was using. Although it had been working perfectly fine all along (and on my previous Garmins), suddenly it stopped. I copied everything to a 32GB card and now all my tracks, waypoints, pictures, and routes show up on startup.

Without knowing the details, it is impossible to clearly determine the cause, probably your 64 GB card was formatted in the FAT32 file system.csewell wrote: Sat Jun 07, 2025 12:23 am Although it had been working perfectly fine all along (and on my previous Garmins), suddenly it stopped.
Formatting a card with a capacity above 32 GB in the FAT32 file structure is a non-standard procedure and you have to reckon with the unstable operation of the card, i.e. with an increased risk of data loss.
