H1 Map scale dimensions

Post by Przekątny »

Could someone measure and post on the forum how many millimeters the scale (line) under the zoom value is?

This question may seem a bit strange. I know the line size is fixed, but it's information I often use when hiking.

The display is 47mm wide with 282 pixels per line.

The Map page 'Scale' bar is exactly 50 pixels wide.

My calculations put the 'Scale' bar at about 8.3mm wide.

Thank you, the information will help me evaluate the map display in the map screenshots provided.

I put a ruler alongside the scale bar, and it measures at a bit more than 6mm wide. So that would mean that the bar is less than 50 pixels wide...

The GPSrChive measurement seems likely to me, with a screen the size of GPSmap 67 and Oregon, we can assume 8 mm. The H1 has a slightly larger screen, so the line may have a different size.

GPSrChive did not measure, he made a calculation :)

I measured the width on my GPSMAP H1, and the width is just a bit more than 6mm (as in between 6 and 6.5mm).

A difference of tenths of a millimeter doesn't matter much to me, but a millimeter or two does. I use the line length to establish a factor that allows me to quickly estimate distances at different magnification levels.

Added:
I know there's a distance measurement option, but you have to stop to measure, and it takes a while. Having the coefficient after looking at the screen (at different zooms) allows me to quickly assess the distance to an object on the map.

Another solution could be used, such as a transparent map with a kilometer grid, which makes it easier to estimate distances.

After recalculating based on the 46 pixels 'between' the scale bar uprights...

The display is 47mm wide with 282 pixels per line. This is precisely 6 pixels per mm.

46 pixels wide / 6 pixels per mm = 7.66mm.

So, more precisely, the scale should measure 7.66mm wide, inside the brackets.
Yep!
