switching profiles suddenly takes several minutes

Frequently, this works out well, but sometimes it is the Profile configuration files that have been corrupted and you do have to literally start over from scratch.

There are indications that profile configuration should not be the cause.

The user deleted profiles and created new ones.

A common source of device malfunctions are newly installed maps and files for various activities;
more briefly - external files.

I can't understand it (but anything is possible with "computers") - but the problem was a faulty SD card ! (I couldn't delete files off it, and it wouldn't even let me reformat it.)

New SD card, copied the Profiles and misc .img files to the new card, minimal re-configuration and all seems well.
