Where are waypoints stored?

Post by bonstetten »

I have various waypoints on my H1 which I do not how to remove/delete all at once.

All "Geocaching live" data are deleted, I removed my own GPX-File and all .fit files from the device and restarted it.
But the waypoints are still there.

Who can help?
(Yes, I know that I can deltete one by one manually, but I've a lot of them)

Waypoints are stored in the file Locations.fit in the GARMIN\Locations folder. It's a binary file (in FIT format), so directly editing it is not possible. Also I'm not aware of any tools that specifically support editing of a FIT file contain locations.

What may be an option though, is to use the Garmin Explore app. The waypoints are synced between the app (and Explore web) and the H1. You can delete multiple waypoints from Explore app at once. After a new sync the deleted waypoints should also be deleted from the H1.

Thank you JungleJim for the fast response.

Currently I'm investigating where to find the additional waypoints of geocaches I load using the GPX-file. The Geocaches are there, but I miss the additional waypoints. Therefore I want to delete all other waypoints to see the difference. You helped me.

The GPSMAP H1 / H1i Plus do not currently support Geocache Child Waypoints.

Why?

Because Garmin Hates You.

Even if they hate me, I am still grateful that geoaching childpoints in geocachng gpx-files are supported on my H1 (Fw 4.03) :D
Still with the gigantic icons, and without the descriptions (or I do not know where to find it), but at least they are.

Is that a GPX file you side loaded?

Last time I tested, no GPX child waypoint GPX files were generated using GC Live to download geocaches.

I already had the experience with my GPSMAP 66st that downloading geocaches with "GC live download" and loading the same geocache gpx-file manually is not the same. My experience above is with manually loaded gps-files into directory /gpx
