Is address search possible using the appropriate map?

Post by WallyGator »

I have OpenMapChest searchable/routable maps installed on my eTrex Touch 2 (same OS as H1/H1i Plus).

Has anyone been able to perform an address search using the above maps or even using Garmin's City Navigator maps?

There is no "address search" option under the Find menu; you are apparently (according to the instructions I've found) supposed to simply enter the address by tapping on the magnifying glass at the bottom of the screen, then input the address in the top search bar. After typing in the address I get an endless "busy" icon (even if the address it's located right next door to me).

Yes, I do have the correct map selected (in this case, OpenMapChest US West) as it's saved with the "Drive" activity I have created. It almost seems as there is no setting to direct the search to using a specific map on the unit or that address searching is not even possible, even when using the correct map.

On older Garmins there were no problem with address search with almost any third party map. Map even hasn't needed to be enabled, it was enough that the map file was in the receiver.

But AFAIK with new models (H1, eTrex Touch 2), it is no longer possible to search addresses. Same situation with Garmin watches.

Thanks for the reply.

I'm going by Garmin's own instructions listed at the link below.

Try as I might, I get no results when using the criteria listed in my post above. This was the reason for the question...has anyone tried to successfully search for an address using Garmin's own maps (City Navigator) or otherwise? According to the instructions, it should work but it doesn't. I don't have City Navigator maps to test.
