Device restart when using Altimeter dashboard while navigating [Crash 5]

Unread post by JungleJim »

Another device restart to add to the list: start navigation (can be to a waypoint, POI or using a course). Go to the Map app. Enable the Altimeter dashboard. Sometimes the device will restart when returning to the Map view. If that doesn't happen, the restart can be triggered by opening the Menu while in the Map app, and selecting any option (eg Stop Navigation).
After restart, opening the Map app will again trigger the restart. In order to be able to use the Map app again, the dashboard needs to be disabled via Settings > Map > Activity Settings > Dashboard.

Thank you for analyse of the restart problem with the altimeter.

I believe this is not new with 5.09, but was already present before. At least my problem with permanent restarts can be avoided if I deactivate the display of the small data fields (including altimeter).

We have duplicated, but only when using the Altimeter Dashboard while navigating. We also discovered if we 'Hide' the Altimeter Dashboard, the crash does not occur. Please test with other dashboards and continue to provide additional details as they become available.

The following behavior I could reproduce with my device:

1. Using the "Map-App" without data fields works without problems
2. Next, activation of "Small Data fields" in the Activity-Settings (for me "Hike")
3. Open "Map-App" and select "Elevation" in one of the datafields
4. Using the receiver works without problems and the map app can be used as expected
5. Power off
6. Power on
7. Open the "Map-App"
8. leads to Crash & Rebooting -> repeats everytime when you click on the "Map-App"
9. Deactivation of the data fields in the Activity-Settings solved the problem and the receiver works after then as expected

I tested this only with the Elevation-Datafield; it could be that others datafields produce the same error.

It seems that the Elevation-Datafield will work with Big data fields

Interesting, this to me seems like an issue with displaying elevation data. Both Altimeter dashboard and the Elevation data field in a data field dashboard lead to crashes.

This seems to be fixed in 6.04, at least for the test I did with a large data field dashboard with an elevation data field in it.
