Device is permanently rebooting [Crash 6]
After creating a route with Garmin Explore (iOS) and syncing it with the device, the device crashed. Since then, it constantly restarts (permanent reboot).
Only official Garmin maps (outdoor, topoactive) are installed on the device. An SD card is not inserted.
What I have done so far:
1. Reset (pressing power button for 30sec) -> Device is afterwards off
2. Master Reset (Enter+Page+power) -> confirm "erase all data" => device is again rebooting permanently
What can I do to get the device to start up again?

You are not alone with your device problem. I had the same problem with my GPSmap H 1 yesterday. After a few hours of trying different things (including spending half an hour outside), the device started working again. It is still working 24 hours later. Unfortunately, I cannot explain what “fixed” the device. I hope it was a one-off case.

Re: Device is permanently rebooting [Crash 6]
For me too, the main menu reappeared after a reboot that took hours. When I opened the Maps app, the device crashed again immediately and the boot cycle started all over. The error definitely seems to be with the Maps app, because in the Map Manager, all installed maps can be configured and viewed without any problems.
After the next restart (after a few hours), I removed all files except for one outdoor+ map. After that, opening the Maps app caused another crash, but this time the device restarted normally. I removed the outdoor+ map and loaded a new map. After that, the device started normally again. I can now also open the Maps app.
This behavior doesn't exactly inspire confidence, as the problem can certainly reappear at any time.
I suspect that the Maps app is faulty, possibly only in combination with outdoor+ maps.

Re: Device is permanently rebooting [Crash 6]
My Hi1 Plus was doing that for a while. Tracked it down to the Topo GB V3 Pro Maps. They were on SD card and it started off that every time I tried to interact with that map the device would freeze. Eventually it would just enter a constant reboot cycle. Taking the SD card out and the device was fine. After a lot of back and forth with Garmin they released a fix in firmware 4.08 specifically for that map. Sounds like other maps are also causing issues. None of the third party maps I use cause any issues.

Re: Device is permanently rebooting [Crash 6]
An update on the issue.
Currently, I was able to fix it by resetting the device after a restart and, this was important, deleting all installed Outdoor+ maps.
Later, I downloaded an Outdoor+ map again and currently, it's working with it.
I also suspect that the problem is related to an Outdoor+ map combination – which doesn't necessarily build trust in the device. In a real situation, I don't want to have the problem of my navigation device constantly restarting. Especially from a Garmin device, I expect it to work reliably under all circumstances, unlike a smartphone.
Currently, I'm somewhat disappointed with the device and will cancel the Outdoor+ subscription for now. The device seems to handle my own custom maps and OpenTopoMap more reliably.

It is true that they are constantly updating Outdoor Maps+ with new layers, improved layers, etc. etc, and this invites the possibility of problems along the way. Eventually, Outdoor Maps+ will mature and become more stable.
Fortunately, we can still use our own maps, just like previous devices!

Currently, I think the problem has to do with displaying altimeter data on the map. If I turn off the display of the small data fields, the device works as expected.

H1 Plus with firmware 6.04. During a hike, it suddenly powered off and then started rebooting continuously.
Removing the SD card had no effect, nor did performing a hard reset (Power + Page + Menu). The device is completely unusable, including—obviously—the ability to send InReach messages.
What level of reliability can a device like this provide?

Please connect device to a computer in 'Forced USB Mass Storage Mode' (see GPSrChive > GPSMAP H1 > Troubleshooting) and rename or remove the Activities and Courses folders, then reboot and report results.Maver wrote: Sun Dec 28, 2025 8:30 am H1 Plus with firmware 6.04.
