Does your Active Weather app work? If yes, then the Wi-Fi is good.

Re: BirdsEye Direct not working...
Hard reset doesn't restore device file system to clean (brand new) state.
Try also this:
- Remove all saved WiFi networks from your device.
- Unregister (remove) your device from Garmin Account and Garmin Connect, Garmin Express, etc.
- Remove any bluetooth pairing in your device's options.
- Remove any microSD card.
- Connect your device to the PC in Mass Storage mode. Then check file system:
Run Command Prompt from Windows machine (find it in Start Menu, then right click and choose Run as Administrator).
Type command chkdsk D: /f - where D: is drive letter of your Garmin device. If your Garmin device has letter E:, then simply replace D: with E:, etc.
It will check and fix your device file system if corrupted. - Remove all unnecessary files and folders. Use some file manager (eg. Total Commander or so), enable show system/hidden files option and then compare you device files and folders with brand new (ie. clean) one.
All files that don't exist on clean or new device, should also be removed from your GPSMAP 66. - Reconnect your device to new Garmin Account, Garmin Express, add WiFi networks and re-try from scratch.
- You can be even more radical and firstly remove your entire Garmin Account and then recreate it.

Re: BirdsEye Direct not working...
There is also posiblity that it is network traffic issue.
Traffic can be filtered by your router or your Internet Service Provider. Your network address can also be blacklisted on Garmin Satellite servers for some reason.
In the past, I experienced the situation where my ISP gave me IP (network address) previously used by hackers. And guess what ? I was was unable to access many legitimate websites until they removed me (ie. my IP network address) from their blacklists.
The only way to check if it is network related issue is to buy another GPSMAP 66 series device (from a seller which accepts returns).
Then check if Birdseye Direct is working or not. If yes, you can be sure that it is your device related issue. If not, it is probably network related.

I've tried different Wi-Fi networks (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz), even my phone's hotspot. Always the same problem.Wojtas81 wrote: Tue Jan 20, 2026 2:22 pmThere is also posiblity that it is network traffic issue.

I spoke with someone in another city (in the same country) who owns a 66sr, and for him, the connection and downloading of BirdsEye Direct images works perfectly.

Re: BirdsEye Direct not working...
Hello everyone, I'm back with some news that unfortunately isn't so good for me.
I received a response from Garmin support, they didn't found anything wrong (I'll try to attach a print screen). It is not the answer I expected.
I followed the steps suggested by Wojtas81, but the problem persists.
Unfortunately, I don't have a second new 66i device to compare the files from my faulty device with those of the new one.
I double-checked the Wi-Fi connection using the Active Weather app (Bluetooth disabled), and yes, it is working.
I don't know if this is a good idea, but if anyone has a working 66i device and knows which file/folder is causing the problem on my device, it would be helpful if they could send me that file/folder so I can try replacing it on my device.
Like I said, I don't know if this is a good idea, but I don't have another one.
Thank you.
