TopoActive Maps version 2026.10 released

Unread post by JungleJim »

Garmin has released TopoActive Maps version 2026.10. No official word on changes yet (other than updated map data of course), the Current Versions of TopoActive Maps page lists 2025.10 as the latest version.

The Europe maps are still three parts (West, Central, East). It looks like North America has now been split in two map regions (east and west), and Canada is also a separate map. Interestingly these options were not available in the Map Manager on my GPSMAP H1, but Garmin Express did show these maps correctly.

Express also offered an update for the Map theme for my H1, but I didn't notice any differences after a quick check.
Current: GPSMAP H1, inReach Mini 2 - Previous: GPSMAP 67, inReach Messenger, GPSMAP 66sr, Oregon 700, Dakota 20, Edge 1040, Edge 1030 Plus, Edge 1030, Edge 520 Plus, Edge 520

For my GPSMAP 66sr the update is also offered.

TopoActive Europe + TopoActive South America for one device.
And TopoActive North America for the other.

One device I have bought from UK, the second one from USA.

That sounds like a full day of map downloads right there.

I find it crazy that TopoActive NA alone requires nearly 4 hours to download and install. On ONE device.

If you have multiple devices, you need to set aside an entire weekend!

Garmin Express caches the map, so it doesn't need to download it again for other devices.
TopoActive Europe took 5 minutes or so.

On which device were you able to load TopoActive Europe maps in 5 minutes?

A virtual eTrex Touch 25, so the interface speed was not a restriction. The real one would certainly take more time, but not 4 hours.
Interesting though was that the same procedure with a virtual Edge Explore 2 took much more time, about an half hour or so, and the real Edge took about the same time.
The maps are identical, apart from the additional Geocode map that the Edge got, and not the eTrex. The Geocode map is used for searching addresses.

What I can say: latest OpenStreetMap data are included. Important map changes in my home city from second half of 2025 are now included.
Garmin DEM map has also been updated from version 2023.10 to 2026.10.

I like TopoActive maps because it supports Active Routing which third party maps does not.
They also looks well when used along with BirdsEye satellite maps .

PS. I have downloaded it only once and copied from device to device.
