Initial isuues I noticed right away:

1. Despite Selecting GPS only, the QZSS constellation still shows under the satellite constellation view page.

2. Related to above on the same satellite constellation view page, swiping between the different constellations (GPS, Galileo, QZSS, BEIDOU) is annoyingly difficult. Swiping from right to left is OK but swiping from left to right is a frustrating mess. The page does not want to go all the way to the right and ends up snapping back to the left the majority of the time. If you start the swipe too far to the left edge, you just end up swiping the satellite constellation view page off the screen.Maybe I'm trying to swipe too fast but I don't recall it being this bad. Even slow, deliberate swipes don't help that much.

The second issue also happens on my GPSMAP H1 with 11.07.

First issue is an odd one. I turned GPS Only ON, and as mentioned, QZSS remained on the swipe-able pages. I left the unit powered on and checked it maybe an hour later and it had then disappeared from the Satellite Constellation. So I then enabled All Systems + Multi-Band...of course all bands were visible. I turned GPS Only back on and they proceeded to remain on the Satellite Constellation screen. Powered-cycled the unit and upon checking again, they were now gone from the Satellite Constellation screen. Tried the same again turning GPS Only back on and All Bands were gone. Seems very random so I can't get a repeatable method to the madness.

There was a GNSS update applied with this firmware version, so perhaps they have some more work to do before the next release. 😉

Is it known if force-backdating the firmware to a previous version will also backdate the GNSS update?

I know that current M series MacBooks are now difficult to backdate to a previous macOS version because the macOS update will many times update the device's firmware and will require a "firmware restore" using a separate (compatible) MacBook to perform the backdate correctly. This allows the proper firmware tied to the OS to be restored since they perform as a "unit".

I suspect the answer will be Yes, but someone will still have to test it to be certain!

Re: issue #1 from above:

Thinking the device had "stabilized" with having GPS Only set to ON for a quite a few hours (powered ON yet sleeping), I wake the unit & check the constellation page and once again, QZSS is enabled with one bird showing. Enabling "All Systems + Multi Band" brings all others into view (as expected). But now, enabling GPS only does NOT clear QZSS from the constellation page. Power-cycling the unit STILL does not clear it. it now seems to be stuck ON regardless of what I do.

This thing currently has a mind of it's own.

Issue #3
Map layer selecting/assigning to activities seems to be broken once again. The map layers do not stick to their assigned activities. This was fixable in the previous firmware version by fiddling with & turning off/on (sometimes numerous times) various layers but now I can't get anything except one activity to keep it's map layer settings.

Oh, and this is after performing a hard reset of the unit and setting the thing up from scratch.

I have reverted back to v10.13, v11.07 is a steaming pile of manure. Have to set it all up from scratch once again. Garmin really seems to be at their "prime".

I'd also suggest that others (H1 users as well) may want to revert back to v10.13 since I personally saw nothing that was "corrected" with v11.07. Actually, more is broken with it that I could stand, hence my backdating to v10.13. With v11.07's map layer issues and the erroneous behavior of the satellite constellation screen, who knows what else is lurking in the shadows. v10.13 seemed to work quite well for me personally.

Note that when backdating, Garmin Connect sync will resend the v11.07 update to the device. Do not allow the device to power on before deleting the uploaded GUPDATE.GSP file from the Garmin folder. Thinking about this now, I don't know how easy it will now even be to stay on an older version since syncing automatically transfers the file over. Or maybe just cancel the update prompt (likely easiest) on the next power-cycle. Or shut down the Garmin Explore app immediately after syncing your content over which aborts the update file transfer.

Note to GPSrChive: Host Software, GPS Software, Wireless Software, Display Software & CIQ all revert back to the previous software version which they were installed with. In other words, all of these versions stay with their respective main Software version update.

I will have to experiment with creating a read-only GUPDATE.GSP file and transfer it to the unit to prevent the automatic file transfer.

EDIT
Well, that didn't work. The Garmin OS apparently tries to read/execute the file at boot, then deletes it from the unit. Having a read-only flag (even on an actual firmware update file) does nothing.

The file transfer through Garmin Explore can take 10-20 minutes or so as it's done via Bluetooth. Immediately after syncing, just close off Garmin Explore and the file transfer to the unit will abort. If for any reason it DOES transfer over and you've missed it, I believe you can just cancel the update prompt on the next power-cycle.

What a flippin' headache.
