Expedition Mode should have separate timeout settings than the display timer. The Use Case for the display timer are keeping the display on for long enough while I am looking at the the device. The current option of 15s to 2mins are adequate.
However the Use Case for Expedition Mode can be different. Consider needing to relocate your position or navigating an obstacle to get back on track I may want to leave the unit in high precision GPS gathering for a period of time, so that I can review the bread crumbs being collected. Having option to auto go into Expedition mode after 2,5,10,30 mins on inactivity would be ideal. There is always the option to override this and drop into Expedition Mode manually.

Re: Expedition Mode Timings
There is also always the option to disable expedition mode in these scenarios until such time you wish to enable it again!
(Menu) > (Menu) > [Setup] > [Expedition Mode] > [Disable]
As well, Expedition mode, when enabled, is entered only after 2 full minutes of inactivity, upon which a 30 second countdown is displayed with a prompt to allow the user to cancel Expedition Mode activation for that occurrence.
Expedition Mode is not tied to the display timeout ('Battery Save') function.
Ultimately, a better workflow may be to create a dedicated Expedition Mode profile for use during such times Expedition Mode is desired, then, in scenarios like the one you mention, change to another profile for the duration of said exercise before switching back to the Expedition Mode profile and continuing on your trek.

Re: Expedition Mode Timings
Yes I agree with the separate profile and timings option. Much better idea as I often only use the device for a day and then return to a power source, as I am sure most people do. But I also make 1-2 week trips away wild camping and it is here that battery life is at a premium. It is only because of the promised 170 hours battery life that I bought this unit in preference to my current Satmap device which has a similar hibernation mode.
