GPSMAP65s - Galileo Satellites Flashing [Bug 8]
Hello,
I just received the 65s and I tried it right away because I read that there was a bug, the numbers of the Galileo and GPS satellites in multiband were flashing, but mine does not, the numbers are stable, I updated to 3.60. I will do precision tests compared to other GPS I own, Twonav Trail2 and Cross which are not multiband but GPS, Glonass and Galileo.

You'll be impressed. I detected aerial image offset between different sources depending on height. E.g. first image 1 is good, 30m higher image 2 fits good. The accuracy puts the questionmarks towards the tolerances of your reference. Also tested by recording waypoints at the border of the road in a junction. Very accurate in open sky condition.
Regarding flashing satellite, you will experience after few days of use. I got my 3rd unit as replacement - all the same. Fresh out of box its working. I currently stick with 3.5 but experienced other annoying bugs. I think Garmin has a very bad codebase grown by budget pressure and lowcost offshore coders with high fluctuation. I don't have another explanation for why they don't have it under control.
If you "use maps" the unit is fine. But you probably don't need multiband and are sufficient with GPS.
If you "create maps" or "need accuracy" the unit is unreliable.

Hello,
I have a friend who owns the 66sr it's the same, the satellites also flash, the problem is the same, normal or not, Garmin will not be able to tell us.

What exact kind of unit do you have? Probably its only an issue with units for certain regions?
The serial sticker at the battery slot in my unit says:
Garmin Würzburg GmbH, Germany
S/N 6QE00xxxx
I personally decided to keep the unit and return it in 2 years as defect if issues are not resolved. We have good customer rights in Europe for electronic devices. Actually I am looking for a Galileo + BeiDou Multi-Band receiver, GPS is not of my interest as it lacks multi-band. Probably Garmin has a successor by then.

Hello,
I have exactly the same label but as I bought it in Germany, cheaper than in France, it comes from Garmin Germany Würzburg GmbH.
However, the problem persists with the flashing of the satellites and munti-band mode, exactly as if these satellites were not active and taken into account even after two or three hours of operation.

But the GPS works OK, even while they are flashing, correct?

Yes, GPS works fine. Galileo has problems with flashing satellites and Glonass problems with less number of satellites than actually available on the sky (reference: smartphone with GPSTest app). Both not always but often.
When all GPS satellites are flashing (e.g. for some duration after coldstart) and no other satellite systems are present yet, then the position is already available but inaccurate for x00 meters (e.g. 500). So I conclude the same will be valid for Galileo flashing in regard of contribution to position.

Hello,
After a fairly long time of operation, the 65s still has the E5a satellites flashing and those there, not the GPS satellites and nor the Glonass, I recorded a waypoint in these conditions, the waypoint is exactly in its place at 50cm close, so the accuracy does not seem to be affected.
But it is still a defect of the Sony chip or the firmaware.
