How to set the activity type before uploading to Garmin Connect?

I just uploaded my first few activities from my Oregon 700. They were kayaking activities, and I created a "Kayak" activity to use. However, when they get uploaded to Garmin Connect, they come through labeled "Hiking." I can hit the drop-down arrow and change that to "Kayaking," but is there a way for the Oregon to correctly label them as they go through to connect?

"Kayaking" is listed under "Other" in that drop-down list, so I'd at least like for the activity to show up as "Other" rather than "Hiking," (which is more incorrect than "Other").

We had to recheck just to be sure, but it appears the ability to configure your recording type for Garmin Connect was never introduced on the Oregon 7x0 series. Some newer Garmin devices do have this configuration available in Setup > Recording > Activity Type, but unfortunately, not the Oregon 7x0.
