MicroSD card not always visible with MTP+Linux

Unread post by alienheartbeat »

(first Garmin GPSr device, so pls excuse any ignorances)

When I first connected my 67i to my laptop
both Internal Storage and the SD Card were visible via MTP.
I could transfer maps to the SD Card.

Then after a few times, when i connected the usb cable
now I could only see the Internal Storage - the SD Card was not visible.

So I tried different cable - no use.

I moved to a different laptop.
First once or twice, ok - could see both Internal Storage and the SD Card.
BUT, then the next time on this 2nd laptop, the SD Card no longer appeared,
only Internal Storage visible.

Different cable / ports / laptops - no difference.

There is no problem with the Sd Card -
the maps on it are visible in the 67i,
and if I remove the card and put it directly into the laptop,
it is visible to the filesystem, files can be transferred, no problems.

Given that MTP is controlled by the target device,
it is as though the 67i was deliberately hiding the SD Card.
Am running Linux, with good visibility via the command line into the USB connections,
but nothing informative that I can see.

Any ideas what is happening, or how to debug?

I have a 67 using Win 11

There seems to have been a change in the way Win11 and/or the 67 display folders/volumes

Previously the 67 and the SD card were shown as two separate folders/ volumes
Not now

Only the 67 is shown
So if you click on the “67” it should open up and show the 67 and the SD card as a folder within
