New inReach Messenger Plus available

Garmin has released a new product called the Garmin inReach Messenger Plus. It allows for sending voice messages and pictures over the Iridum satellite network. Price is $499.99.

The inReach subscription model has also been simplified starting September 2024. All plans are now on month-to-month basis (no distinction between freedom and annual contracts) and the names of the plans have changed (to Essential, Standard and Premium). One interesting change is the inclusion of a new Enabled state where you pay a lower fee but still have access to unlimited SOS-messaging and tracking/messaging for a fee per message. When you cancel your subscription and sign up again you need to pay the activation fee (which has increased to $39.99 from $34.95).
