City Navigator Europe NTU for GPSMAP 67

Unread post by venci67 »

Hi, can I add just one country from City Navigator Europe NTU to the GPSMAP 67? I want to be able to use it as a full-fledged cycling navigation. I know they can pull individual countries (I've done it years ago for other GPS's) will this work for the GPSMAP 67.

That is not possible. You can buy CN on a micro SD card or as a download for your GPSMAP or as a download, in both cases you will get the map of whole Europe. It is not possible to get just a part of the map.

If you have a device that comes with the CN map preinstalled (like the Montana 710i/760i), usually you can download the map on your computer and use MapInstall to install a part of it on that device. The GPSMAP 67 cannot be bought with a preinstalled version of CN, so this solution does not apply.

For cycling the OpenFietsMap is a better solution.

I usually use OpenStreetMap for hiking, biking, and kayaking with my GPSMAP 67. I download them from here BBBike In fact, from the very beginning I got rid of the huge and useless TopoActive Europe and used an OSM map compiled according to my needs.

My idea was to have a map with addresses, landmarks, shops, etc.

I own a Garmin DriveSmart 61 LMT-D and I know I have the option to install the map on the PC, but I've always wondered what that huge map on the PC is for. It didn't occur to me that I could use MapInstall to transfer some of it to the GPSMAP 67, I'll definitely try that. I guess that way I won't lose options like address search etc.

Garmin BaseCamp uses the map on your PC so you don't have to connect the device to your computer everytime you want to use BaseCamp. If you don't use BaseCamp it has no added value.
The map is locked to a certain device, in this case your DriveSmart 61. You can't install the map on your GPSMAP 67.

Garmin themselves are reducing sales of these devices by limiting the free use of maps. I know people who don't even want to hear about the new models for this very reason, and when we add modern cars with built-in navigation + phones, Garmin in this segment is increasingly becoming a thing of the past.
My previous GPS was a Dakota and I never had such problems with the maps, there were even times when I used it as a navigator in the car. I don't know if Garmin will sell more maps this way, but it's certain that they will sell many times fewer devices.

Garmin doesn't collect the map data themselves. They are buying it from Here and must respect that company's licensing terms, and cannot give it away freely.
Years ago you could get a license for a second device (V9 was the last version with that option, it's from 2007 or so), but after that you would need a separate license for every device (including your Dakota, it's not that old).
