Imported route calculation in device

I've imported a number of routes into a Montana 700i, latest firmware, latest maps

Either of where to>routes>{route} or
route planner>{route}

triggers an import/calculation that takes several minutes. The former says importing shaping points, the latter says "calculating" but the time taken and end result is the same.

The even more annoying thing is it must be done before each use of the route - which means I can't "pre-import" the route, it must be done live just before use.

Is there any kind of a workaround for this?
