Custom Voices

Voice Selection

• The Garmin Montana 7x0 can provide vocal prompts when used with compatible external mounts and headsets.
• Garmin previously offered additional voice bundles, but that service has sadly been discontinued.
• Fortunately, the internet is forever, and you may still be able to find additional voices by searching for *.vpm files.
• Do keep in mind that not all voices worked with all devices, and most (if not all) were created long before the Montana 7x0.
• Voices currently installed on the Montana 7x0 can be viewed and enabled in Setup > System > Language > Voice Language.

 

Manual Voice Installation

1. Connect your Montana via USB and enter Mass Storage Mode.
2. Choose the desired voice from this Garmin Garage.
3. Save the file to your computer.
4. Unzip the saved archive.
5. Copy the voice file (*.vpm) to the [Montana]\Garmin\Voice\ directory.
6. Disconnect and restart the Montana.
7. Configure the desired voice in Setup > System > Language > Voice Language.

 

Automated Voice Installation

• No longer supported

1. Ensure you have the latest Garmin Communicator Plugin installed.
2. Connect your Montana via USB and enter Mass Storage Mode.
3. Choose the desired voice from the Garmin Garage.
4. Select [Install Now].
5. Disconnect and restart the Montana.
6. Configure the desired voice in Setup > System > Language > Voice Language.
