I just unboxed my new Montana
7x0 GPSr. Now What?
Congratulations! You are the proud owner of Garmin's newest and most advanced handheld personal navigation device to date!
We know you're probably just aching to power
it on and get outside right away, but your new Montana is not quite ready yet.
We highly recommended you first complete the tasks below to ensure your Montana is prepared with all the latest features and fully able to provide you with the best
possible user experience.
- If you haven't already,
Install
Garmin Express
-
Install the battery pack
-
Power the unit on by pressing and releasing the power button
-
Select the desired language
-
Make sure the Garmin Express program is running on
your computer
-
Connect the Montana to your computer with the
supplied USB cable
-
Once Garmin Express detects the Montana 7x0,
follow the prompts to complete registration
-
Allow Garmin Express to install all available
software and map
updates, following any prompts as directed
- Create and save an
archival backup of your Montana 7x0
- Find and load additional
maps as desired
- If present, delete or rename
[GPSr]\Garmin\GGZ\preload.ggz to
[GPSr]\Garmin\GGZ\preload.old
to disable any outdated geocache data
- Allow the Li-ion battery to charge fully
- While the battery is charging, visit the
Main Menu,
Setup,
Operation and
Video pages to familiarize yourself with the Montana
7x0
- Once fully charged, power on the Montana and
place it in clear view of the sky (preferably outdoors) to perform a first time location initialization
- While you're waiting, check the
Common Issues list and see what others
are saying about their Montana
7x0 GPSr
- Enable GPX tracklog recording
in [Setup
> Recording > Advanced Setup > Output Format]
- Now get outdoors and have some fun! (take the Montana with you)
