Troubleshooting
- The screen does not respond. How do I reset the device?

Press and hold
the Power button for >60 seconds and then release.
- Allow the
Montana 7x0 to cool if hot to the touch.
- How do I reset all settings back to factory defaults?

Power the Montana 7x0 off.
-
Remove battery pack for >30 seconds and reinstall.

Press and hold the Power button until the
Status LED turns red.
-
Release the Power button.
-
The Montana 7x0 is now in 'Boot Block' mode, which
last about 8 seconds.
-
Quickly press and release the Power button
twice.
-
The Status LED will turn green, and the device
will begin the boot process.
-
A "Restoring settings and activities to defaults."
message will be displayed.
-
The Montana 7x0 is now clearing all data and
restoring all settings to factory defaults.
- My Montana 7x0 is not acquiring satellite signals.
-
Power your Montana 7x0 On.
-
Place the GPSr outside, in clear view of the sky, away from any obstructions, for
>15 minutes.
-
Open
Satellite page > Menu > Satellite Setup > Satellite System > Demo Mode >
{back} > Menu > Use With GPS On > AutoLocate Position.

Place the GPSr outside, in clear view of the sky, away from any obstructions, for
>30 minutes.

If no improvement, perform a
Master Reset and repeat.
- My Montana 7x0 will not charge.

Reduce backlight brightness.
-
Ensure the USB cable is inserted fully.
-
Try a different cable or USB port.
-
Remove and reinstall Lithium-ion battery pack.
- Ensure temperature is between 32°F and 122°F (0°C - 50°C).
- My Montana 7x0 battery gauge is not accurate.

Leave the device powered on until the battery is completely discharged.
-
Power the Montana 7x0 off.
-
Charge the battery fully without interruption.
- The battery does not last very long.
- How can I be sure my Montana 700, 700i or 750i is in USB Mass Storage Mode?
- How can I be sure my Montana 710, 710i or 760i is in MTP Mode?
- My Montana 700, 700i or 750i is connected to a computer, but will not enter Mass Storage Mode.
- I do not see any new removable drives in my list of drives.

Try a different cable or USB port

Windows may be having trouble assigning a drive letter.

On your PC, select 'My Computer > Manage > Disk Management' to assign drive letters.

Note: Montana 710, 710i
and 760i use MTP mode exclusively and will not appear as removable drives.
- Why does my computer not recognize my Montana
700, 700i or 750i?
-
Make sure you have the latest
Garmin drivers installed.
-
Enter
Forced Mass Storage Mode.
-
When prompted by the Found New Hardware Wizard, select "No not at this time" followed by "Install USB drivers automatically".
-
Once the driver installation is complete, select "Finish".
-
The computer should now recognize the
Montana 7x0 and installed microSD card as external storage drives.
- My Montana 7x0 is not reading data from the microSD card.
- My PC frequently displays "USB Device not recognized" when I connect my GPSr.
- While trying to load GCLive data, my Montana
7x0 perpetually displays a spinning wheel on the screen and no data is
loaded.
- I'm having trouble pairing my Montana 7x0 to my
smart phone via Garmin Connect or Explore.
- My Montana 7x0 keeps shutting down before
finishing the boot sequence.
Hidden Test Pages
- Device Information and Diagnostics:

Open Satellite page.

Press and hold the upper left corner of the
screen >5 seconds.
-
A diagnostic test menu will appear.
-
Options will vary based on available hardware.
-
Short press power button to cycle backlight
brightness.
-
Long press power button to power device off.
-
Select desired test
menu option.
- Error Logs:
-
Open Trip Computer
page.
-
Press and hold the lower right corner of the screen (over the Menu Bar) > 5 seconds
-
A diagnostic screen will appear displaying a list of recently logged exceptions
-
The lower section of the page will display current memory usage and stats
-
Select an exception from the list to view register dumps for that exception
-
Use the back arrow to return to the list of exceptions and to exit this diagnostic mode
